This is a tutorial that details how to make a simple shader based grass material. I originally got this material from somewhere and modified it for my purpose. If I figure out who developed the original, I'll gladly give credit. I was asked how I got the 'grass' look in my house renderings, and thought a tutorial might do everyone better than a material file. You learn a lot more setting the settings for yourself. ;o)
.
First, for the texture to look best, its best to have some terrain for the map to be applied to. One easy way to make this terrain is to use Image2Mesh or Image2Relief -- Image2Mesh.
Start with a image from photoshop that will indicate the levels of your terrain. Lighter colors are higher spots and darker colors the valleys. Here is a sample I made in PhotoShop using the 'cloud' filter.
Next load this image into the plug-in in EI.

The settings above are only for reference, as they are probably overkill. If you are using Image2Relief, the terrain will come into EI on its side and you'll have to rotate it, as Image2Relief doesn't have the orientation setting.

A test rendering of the scene should look something like this. Kind like a 'moonscape'.
