I’m LONG overdue with a part 3 of this article. I’ve owned an iPad for a couple years now… and I have replaced my laptop with it… and have lots of reflections on how this has gone.

I’m curious if the recent updates to iWork make any difference in your situation. My wife and I are already making use of Numbers for some household budget stuff. For serious word-processing, I suppose it could be an issue, as I don’t know about more ‘power’ features on any of the iOS word processors.

Also, do you have a Blue Tooth keyboard? Whenever I need to get serious typing done, I use one, which makes it quite nearly as good as my desktop, if not better (less distraction). There are some super-powerful text editors available for the iPad now, though more for writers and programmers than kids.

Well worth the money for us. But it isn’t made for wordprocessing really. My kids do type their reports on it when we are away and we transfer it to the mac to print. It is very handy for that since we don’t have a laptop.
